My name is Victor, and I would like to share a little about myself and how I became involved with AJS Carpet Cleaning, Inc.
In December 2000, my wife Verna and I moved from Jamaica to Utah to join our children. Four of them had already graduated from BYU, and our youngest had just been admitted to the Industrial Design program there. We quickly realized we did not like the idea of an empty nest, so being close to family became an important part of this new chapter in our lives.
Of course, once we arrived, one question immediately became very important: how were we going to make a living here? It did not take long for us to decide that starting our own business was the right path.
We knew the business needed to meet a few practical goals. It had to require very little startup capital, have a short learning curve, depend on employees with minimal technical skills, be service-oriented, and be in strong demand locally.
With those things in mind, we started a janitorial services company under the name Able Janitorial Services. It was relatively easy to launch, and the business grew steadily through referrals from satisfied clients. Later, on the advice of our eldest son, we added carpet cleaning to our list of services.
That decision shaped the future of the company. Today, carpet cleaning accounts for about 90% of our income stream and has become the heart of what we do.
