How to Get Mud Out of Your Carpet

How do you get deep dirt out of carpet?

Most homeowners have the common problem of getting mud in their homes, especially when there are kids and pets. Pets need to go outside for their exercise, and its virtually impossible to completely towel them off when they get back into the house. Kids are quite forgetful on taking their shoes off when entering the house. In other words, no matter how careful you are, muddy prints are unavoidable.

Steps to Get Mud Out of Carpets

  1. Let the mud dry. It is easier to remove the mud when it is dry. If it is too wet, help dry it by gently blotting with a dry towel/newspaper and sparingly apply hot air with hair dryer.
  2. Vacuum the muddied area as much as possible to suck up the dried dirt.
  3. Mix 2 parts water to detergent solution. (Liquid dish-washing detergent is best)
  4. Lift the leftover stain by blotting with a white cloth dipped in the solution.
  5. Dry the area with paper towels
  6. If it is still visible, consider getting help professionally. Do not rub forcefully or you might damage the carpet.

Prevention is still better than cure, it is advised to install a buffer area in the main entryway to minimize the impact of mud stains.
