Where do I start when cleaning my house?

New carpet will eventually have to be cleaned. Read about more carpet cleaning tips, here. Purchasing new carpet requires careful planning. If you want to get the most out of your investment, you need to plan for future cleaning. Many carpet manufacturers provide specific guidelines for carpet cleaning. Read on to learn more about cleaning your new carpet.

Regular Cleaning

Regardless of the type of carpet purchased, regular cleaning is essential. Even stain resistant carpet requires frequent maintenance. Carpet must be vacuumed regularly. Vacuuming will remove dry soil particles that otherwise become embedded in the carpet fibers. When soil attaches to the fibers, it will dull the appearance of the carpet.

It also causes matting and carpet degradation. Other maintenance measures should be considered as well. Frequent furniture rotation helps to rest carpet by rotating the traffic areas. Carpet crushing can also be prevented by using glides underneath the heaviest furniture. The carpet should also be afforded some protection from the sun. Close the blinds or curtains during peak sunlight hours.

Spot Cleaning

Stain resistance in carpet is a great feature because it offers extra protection over regular types of carpet. However, it is not a license to leave stains untreated. Know that you will still need to act fast to remove stains. Spots should be removed as quickly as possible and not left to set in. With stain resistant carpet, the stain will typically not absorb into the carpet fibers. It is often easily removed by wiping up with water.

For additional treatment, mild cleansing agents are recommended. A small amount of the dishwashing detergent should be diluted with water. Stains should be blotted with cleanser until they are completely removed from the carpet. Blot the area with water to completely remove all residual detergent. This will prevent additional surface soiling. Be sure the spot dries completely to prevent the growth of mold or mildew. Professional cleaning may be required for difficult stains.

Professional Cleaning

Most carpet manufacturers recommend a minimum of professional deep cleaning to maintain the warranty. The recommended frequency varies based on the carpet type and manufacturer. Cleaning is typically suggested every 12 to 18 months at a minimum. Steam cleaning or hot water extraction is often the required type of cleaning.

Even stain protected carpeting needs regular cleaning. Stainmaster carpet cleaning is performed by many carpet cleaning professionals. Use a carpet cleaning service that is up to date with the latest treatments and techniques.
